Sir Edmund Hillary
Born: 20th July 1919 Auckland NZ, Died 11th January 2008 Auckland,
On the 29th of May 1953, when Sir Edmund Hillary was 33, he and Sherpa mountaineer Tenzing Norgay became the very first climbers know to have climb the summit of Mount Everest (the tallest mountain in the world) He first got into mountaineering when he was in secondary school; as he climbed his first mountain Mount Ollivier. In 1992 Sir Edmund Hillary was featured on the New Zealand $5 note. Ed has accomplished many other things witch he was more proud of, like Traveling up the Ganges river, going to the south pole on a tractor and building schools and hospitals in Nepal,(Tenzing’s homeland). This is why I like being in Hillary house and having Sir Edmund as our role model.
